With summer underway, people are looking for vacation spots around America and the world. If you’re over the traditional cookie-cutter vacation, these five websites, all ran by black women, are turning the tide by offering a meaningful experience or adventure to help people find the vacation of their dreams.

Nomadness Travel Tribe

If you’re a millennial looking to unite with like-minded travelers, Nomadness Travel Tribe could be for you. Members of the tribe connect via social media as well as in person on group trips abroad. Traveling to places like India, South Africa and Samoa, Nomadness strives to show Black travelers the world and show the world that Black people travel.

Founded by Evita Robinson, a three times expatriate, in 2011, Nomadness was first in the urban travel movement and caters to millennials, according to the website. The mission “is to show the world that travel has no racial, gender, religious, economic or interest limitations through our community representation and relevancy.”  The tribe, as they call themselves, consists of more than 19,000 Black and brown millennials who’ve made almost 30 international group trips. Group members connect via the group’s Facebook page.

Anyone can join the tribe — if you have at least one stamp on your passport.

Robinson, also started “The NOMADNESS Project” web series for travelers. The web series is co-executive produced by Issa Rae.

Tastemakers

Cherae Robinson’s Tastemakers is a website geared towards the Black traveler with aspirations of visiting the “Motherland.” The site’s goal is to change global perceptions about travel to Africa. It also has a mobile application that links curious travelers to unique cultural experiences from Cairo to Cape Town and Addis Ababa to Accra. By connecting travelers to local curators, who create a unique experience, Tastemakers is an all-access site that can book your entire vacation excluding flight fees.

The website aims to make Africa a destination for more travelers who wouldn’t usually see Africa as a prime vacation spot.
