SUMMARY:Gary International Black Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The 14th annual Gary International Black Film Festival from Oct. 10-13 will offer viewers the chance to see over 50 films with world premieres\, panel discussions\, filmmaker chats\, parties and award ceremonies. \nThe festival is in the heart of Gary\, 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. At the center of the festival are Black indie filmmakers\, several of which will be honored with awards throughout the weekend. \nLeading up to the weekend\, the festival will celebrate Deon Taylor Day on Oct. 8 in recognition of his work as a local filmmaker. \nA screening of a film at the Gary International Black Film Festival. The events leading up to the festival will feature in-person collaborations with local businesses and organizations\, including a Festival Pre-Funk at Brown Skin Coffee Tea on Oct. 10. The following day\, there will be a red carpet opening with featured film premieres and a gala closing night awards ceremony. \nThe festival showcases the roots and stories of international film makers across the Black diaspora. The festival uses film “as a catalyst for stimulating cultural activity to enhance the cultural capital of our hometown\,” according to the website. \nEligible films for the festival must be by or about Black people\, and audiences vote for awards in the following categories: \n\nBest narrative feature\n\n\nBest documentary feature\n\n\nBest narrative short\n\n\nBest documentary short\n\n\nBest youth film\n\n\nOther awards by discretion\n\nAudiences will be able to vote for their favorite both in-person and online. SUMMARY:INRC to host 3rd annual Jubilee and documentary pre-screening
DESCRIPTION:The Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center’s (INRC) 3rd annual Jubilee will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday\, Oct. 10 at the Salesforce Tower. \nThe event will feature complimentary beer\, wine\, hors d’oeuvres\, music\, silent auctions and wine pull\, as well as interactive activities by artist Cierra Johnson and Chromatic Collective. \nINRC provides training\, resources and support to Indianapolis communities through programs like the Indianapolis Community Building Institute\, Public Allies Indianapolis and Neighbor Power Indy. \nThe Jubilee will raise funds to continue these efforts and celebrate the success of the Creative Placemaking Program and INRC’s 30th anniversary. \nINRC provides training\, resources and support to Indianapolis communities through programs like the Indianapolis Community Building Institute\, Public Allies Indianapolis and Neighbor Power Indy.
