SUMMARY:Community Resource Day On October 4 Will Include Free Food\, Giveaways\, Financial Assistance Guidance\, and Important Community Information
DESCRIPTION:INDIANAPOLIS – On Saturday\, October 4\, Citizens Energy Group will host its third annual Community Resource Day\, featuring more than 50 community organizations\, local businesses\, healthcare providers\, and educational institutions\, all with the goal of connecting our Central Indiana neighbors to the resources they need to thrive. This free\, fair-style event will include vouchers for lunch from food trucks on site; giveaways of hats\, gloves\, and school supplies while \n(Photo/Citizens Energy Group)\nsupplies last; and family activities including face-painting and an Excavation Station for kids. It will also give Central Indiana’s organizations a chance to engage with residents regarding important wellness\, financial assistance\, and safety resources for the coming colder months. \nWHAT: Community Resource Day\, hosted by Citizens Energy Group\nWHO: Open to the public\, with language translation services available\nWHEN: October 4\, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.\nOpen admission until 12:45 p.m.\nWHERE: 2020 N Meridian Street\, Indianapolis\, IN 46202\nParking is available on site and in the adjacent neighborhood. Transit access is available via the IndyGo Red and Purple Lines. \nCurrent event info\, including a list of participating community partners\, can be found at citizensenergygroup.com/CRD. \nClick here for a shareable event flyer. Photos from previous events are at the bottom of this release. \nCommunity members who attend the event can learn how to check their eligibility for the Energy Assistance Program (EAP\, opening at the beginning of October) as well as how to apply. Customers approved for EAP will also automatically receive a 10-25 percent discount on their Citizens natural gas bill as well as a Low-Income Customer Assistance Program (LICAP) credit which lowers wastewater bills between $6 and $15 a month. Citizens employees can help navigate the application process for these programs on site\, and additional information is available on our Assistance webpage. \nCommunity Resource Day will host a list of community organizations including (but not limited to) AES Indiana; American Red Cross; Brooke’s Place; Care Source; Catholic Charities Indianapolis; Center for Leadership Development; Center Township of Marion County; Child Advocates; Community Alliance of the Far Eastside\, Inc.; Consistent Care Transit LLC; Edna Martin Christian Center; EmpowerED Families; Eskenazi Health; Felege Hiywot Center; Flanner House; Freetown Village; Gleaners Food Bank of Indianapolis; Harvest 2 Home Indy Floating Farmers Market; Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF); Immigrant Welcome Center; Indianapolis Marion County Public Library Foundation\, Inc.; Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center (INRC); Indy Hygiene Hub; Indy’s Global Village; International District Community Center (IDCC); IU Health; John H. Boner Neighborhood Center; Love & Light Care Services; Marion County Prosecutor’s Office; Martindale Brightwood Community Development Corporation (MBCDC); Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center; Office of Congressman André Carson; Overdose Lifeline; Patchwork Indy; Silver Citizens Inc.; Simon Youth Foundation; The Bridge Indy and Charity Cares; The Mind Trust; Trinity Haven Indy; and United Way of Central Indiana. \nAssistance Is Available for Customers In Need \nCitizens urges customers who may be falling behind on their bills to visit www.citizensenergygroup.com/help or call Citizens at (317) 924-3311. In addition to grants from the Warm Heart Warm Home Foundation™\, they may be eligible to establish flexible payment arrangements to assist in catching up on past-due bills. \nOne of the best ways to reduce the cost of utility bills is by conserving energy\, which can be done by taking the following steps: \n\nChange or clean furnace filters once per month\, or as recommended by the manufacturer\, during the home-heating season. Furnaces consume less energy if they “breathe” more easily. Receipt of one’s natural gas bill can be a good reminder.\nSet water heater temperature to 120 degrees. A family of four\, each showering for five minutes per day\, uses 350 gallons of water each week. By lowering the thermostat on the water heater to 120 degrees\, families can reduce water heating bills without sacrificing comfort.\nReduce air leaks. This can cut as much as 10 percent from an average household’s monthly energy bill. Seal leaks around doors\, windows\, and other openings (such as pipes or ducts) with caulk or weather-stripping.\nReplace old\, outdated appliances with high-efficiency natural gas models. When buying new appliances\, compare energy efficiency ratings and annual operating costs.

People who are Black or African American or Hispanic or Latino are at increased risk for developing kidney disease. Anyone can take a quick online quiz to assess their risk factors for kidney disease at MinuteForYourKidneys.org.

SUMMARY:Parvo vaccination clinic
DESCRIPTION:Indy’s Parvo Prevention Project will host a free Parvo vaccination clinic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 12 at LifeJourney Church. \nThe event is sponsored by LDR Rescue and will vaccinate dogs against distemper\, hepatitis\, Parvovirus and parainfluenza. In addition to the vaccinations\, dogs will receive microchips to help veterinarians and owners locate them if lost. Ministerial staff from the church will be there to provide blessings for dogs and families. \n“Too many dogs aren’t getting the affordable and effective vaccinations for the highly lethal\, expensive-to-treat Parvovirus\, and the results are heartbreaking\,” said Robin Herman\, the founder of LDR Rescue and organizer of the event. \nGiven the low cost of the vaccine\, the proportion of deaths is unfortunate\, Herman said. \n“When new puppy owners meet with most vets for the first time\, they are confronted with packaged options that can run up to several hundred dollars\,” Herman said. “If they do nothing else\, they should ask for the Parvo vaccine\, which can cost as little as $16.” \nHerman said the goal of the project is to inoculate 500 dogs at the clinic and conduct other events throughout the year. The first event earlier this year vaccinated 385 dogs. \n“Our rescue has fostered more dogs than ever since the pandemic who are suffering from Parvo\,” she said. “People adopted dogs who didn’t understand the risk\, and at the same time\, veterinarians have been busier than ever because of all the adoptions.” \nThe vaccinations were donated by a nonprofit\, Petco Love\, making the event free to dog owners and a great opportunity to get vaccinations. \n“It is heartbreaking when any pet suffers or dies from a disease that could have been prevented\,” said Susanne Kogut\, Petco Love president. “By creating greater awareness and making this crucial preventative care more accessible to pets not currently receiving these life-saving vaccines\, we can prevent the dangerous spread of disease.” \nDog owners will be able to drive through the clinic. Owners will receive guidance on any recommended immunization follow-ups. The LifeJourney Church is at 2950 E. 55th Place. \nNoise phobia and blue-green algae pose summer health risks for dogs   – Indianapolis Recorder \nContact Health & Environmental Reporter Hanna Rauworth at 317-762-7854 or follow her on Instagram at @hanna.rauworth.
