SUMMARY:Community Resource Day On October 4 Will Include Free Food\, Giveaways\, Financial Assistance Guidance\, and Important Community Information
DESCRIPTION:INDIANAPOLIS – On Saturday\, October 4\, Citizens Energy Group will host its third annual Community Resource Day\, featuring more than 50 community organizations\, local businesses\, healthcare providers\, and educational institutions\, all with the goal of connecting our Central Indiana neighbors to the resources they need to thrive. This free\, fair-style event will include vouchers for lunch from food trucks on site; giveaways of hats\, gloves\, and school supplies while \n(Photo/Citizens Energy Group)\nsupplies last; and family activities including face-painting and an Excavation Station for kids. It will also give Central Indiana’s organizations a chance to engage with residents regarding important wellness\, financial assistance\, and safety resources for the coming colder months. \nWHAT: Community Resource Day\, hosted by Citizens Energy Group\nWHO: Open to the public\, with language translation services available\nWHEN: October 4\, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.\nOpen admission until 12:45 p.m.\nWHERE: 2020 N Meridian Street\, Indianapolis\, IN 46202\nParking is available on site and in the adjacent neighborhood. Transit access is available via the IndyGo Red and Purple Lines. \nCurrent event info\, including a list of participating community partners\, can be found at citizensenergygroup.com/CRD. \nClick here for a shareable event flyer. Photos from previous events are at the bottom of this release. \nCommunity members who attend the event can learn how to check their eligibility for the Energy Assistance Program (EAP\, opening at the beginning of October) as well as how to apply. Customers approved for EAP will also automatically receive a 10-25 percent discount on their Citizens natural gas bill as well as a Low-Income Customer Assistance Program (LICAP) credit which lowers wastewater bills between $6 and $15 a month. Citizens employees can help navigate the application process for these programs on site\, and additional information is available on our Assistance webpage. \nCommunity Resource Day will host a list of community organizations including (but not limited to) AES Indiana; American Red Cross; Brooke’s Place; Care Source; Catholic Charities Indianapolis; Center for Leadership Development; Center Township of Marion County; Child Advocates; Community Alliance of the Far Eastside\, Inc.; Consistent Care Transit LLC; Edna Martin Christian Center; EmpowerED Families; Eskenazi Health; Felege Hiywot Center; Flanner House; Freetown Village; Gleaners Food Bank of Indianapolis; Harvest 2 Home Indy Floating Farmers Market; Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF); Immigrant Welcome Center; Indianapolis Marion County Public Library Foundation\, Inc.; Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center (INRC); Indy Hygiene Hub; Indy’s Global Village; International District Community Center (IDCC); IU Health; John H. Boner Neighborhood Center; Love & Light Care Services; Marion County Prosecutor’s Office; Martindale Brightwood Community Development Corporation (MBCDC); Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center; Office of Congressman André Carson; Overdose Lifeline; Patchwork Indy; Silver Citizens Inc.; Simon Youth Foundation; The Bridge Indy and Charity Cares; The Mind Trust; Trinity Haven Indy; and United Way of Central Indiana. \nAssistance Is Available for Customers In Need \nCitizens urges customers who may be falling behind on their bills to visit www.citizensenergygroup.com/help or call Citizens at (317) 924-3311. In addition to grants from the Warm Heart Warm Home Foundation™\, they may be eligible to establish flexible payment arrangements to assist in catching up on past-due bills. \nOne of the best ways to reduce the cost of utility bills is by conserving energy\, which can be done by taking the following steps: \n\nChange or clean furnace filters once per month\, or as recommended by the manufacturer\, during the home-heating season. Furnaces consume less energy if they “breathe” more easily. Receipt of one’s natural gas bill can be a good reminder.\nSet water heater temperature to 120 degrees. A family of four\, each showering for five minutes per day\, uses 350 gallons of water each week. By lowering the thermostat on the water heater to 120 degrees\, families can reduce water heating bills without sacrificing comfort.\nReduce air leaks. This can cut as much as 10 percent from an average household’s monthly energy bill. Seal leaks around doors\, windows\, and other openings (such as pipes or ducts) with caulk or weather-stripping.\nReplace old\, outdated appliances with high-efficiency natural gas models. When buying new appliances\, compare energy efficiency ratings and annual operating costs.

SUMMARY:June First Friday Gallery Opening
DESCRIPTION:On June 6th\, from 6-9pm\, join us for First Friday! Enjoy these openings: \nIn the Harrison Gallery\, CYCLO by Mailinh Hồ. In this exhibition\, Mailinh Hồ presents an array of soft oil paintings and vibrant watercolors as personal reflections. Snapshots of memories\, musings on nostalgia and an imagined future come together to ask\, “Where are you going and where are you from?” Like a dog chasing its tail\, we look behind us and keep on running. \nIn the Gallery Annex\, Backlogged Dreams by Kaylan Buteyn. Buteyn explores memory and the unconscious through textiles\, mixed media\, and watercolor. Drawing on imagery from her childhood log cabin home\, she pieces together fabric\, paint\, and mark-making in layered compositions that reflect how memories distort and evolve. \nIn the Speck Gallery\, Visual Rhythms by Mike Meares. This collection of acrylic paintings explores the energy of music through layers of line and color. Inspired by the emotions and complexity of song\, Meares creates spontaneous works shaped by the rhythms and melodies he listens to. The process reflects the transformative power of music\, inviting viewers to experience the emotional depth of sound through visual art. \nIn the City Gallery\, Alternate Route by Phillip Lynam. In this exhibition\, Lynam presents paintings and drawings that reflect the quiet beauty found in the light\, structure\, and geometry of Indianapolis. Working primarily with acrylic\, graphite\, and colored pencil on panel and paper\, Lynam captures fleeting urban moments through a subtle\, observational lens. \nIn the Hank & Dolly’s Gallery\, Hanging by a Thread by Liz Hamstra. This vibrant collection plays with the tension between symmetry\, asymmetry\, and color. Using acrylic and thread on canvas\, the artist weaves a kaleidoscopic world where shapes and patterns collide. The embroidery thread adds depth and texture\, enhancing the dynamic relationship between the geometric elements and the chaotic landscapes of color. \nIn the Underground Gallery\, Liminal Wonder by Liz Nelson. Liminal Wonder explores beauty in overlooked spaces and moments of transition. Using acrylic and mixed media on wood and canvas\, the artist highlights how line\, form\, and color reveal joy in the mundane and potential in the in-between. Each piece invites quiet reflection and appreciation for subtle shifts that shape our surroundings. \nGuests can also enjoy: \nMusical performances on the Sky Deck with 2025 Art & Soul featured artist Brandon Lott\, thanks to a grant from the Indy Arts Council. Lott began his career in 2014 as a music intern at the Harrison Center while attending Herron High School. In 2022\, Brandon signed with 199X Sound\, an independently-run artist management company based in LA. His work blends R&B and neo soul with global influences\, aiming to inspire listeners to explore their inner selves and question the mysteries of existence. \nBloom Together: Flower-Making Project in the Courtyard. Get creative and help transform our grounds into a vibrant garden of giant blooms! Led by artist Allison Schilawski\, this hands-on community art experience invites everyone to design and build large-scale flowers\, then “plant” them in the garden beds for all to enjoy. \nAll shows will open at 6:00 pm on Friday\, June 6th.  \nVisitors can take in-person gallery tours Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. Online galleries will open on April 5th. You can make an appointment or view the online galleries at harrisoncenter.org/buy-art. \nSpecial Senior Hours are every Friday from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. SUMMARY:Dance Kaleidoscope presents season finale 'Under the Covers'
DESCRIPTION:Dance Kaleidoscope is presenting its season finale “Under the Covers” May 30-June 1 at the Tobias Theatre at Newfields. \nPrepare for an unforgettable season finale packed with passion\, creativity\, and dazzling performances! Atlanta-based choreographer Autumn Eckman\, alongside Christel DeHaan Artistic Director Joshua Blake Carter\, bring you a thrilling\, crowd-pleasing showstopper that will leave you breathless\, according to a press release. \nWith an impressive career that spans Giordano Dance Chicago\, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago\, and State Street Ballet\, Eckman is ready to set the stage on fire with a world premiere that promises to be nothing short of electrifying. As the Chicago Tribune raves\, “Eckman is a bright choreographic stylist\, mixing solid design with color and sparkle.” Her innovative choreography is sure to captivate and inspire. \nMeanwhile\, Carter takes the spotlight with “Under the Covers\,” a world premiere set to the hauntingly beautiful voice of vocal artist James Blake. Featuring covers of iconic songs by Roberta Flack\, Billie Eilish\, and Beyoncé\, this powerful work delves into the complexities of human relationships behind closed doors—the good\, the bad\, the beautiful\, and the ugly. \nAnd that’s not all! Back by popular demand\, Carter’s 2024 Stories from the Corner Bar returns\, featuring the soul-stirring music of Brandi Carlile. As Jay Harvey Upstage describes it\, “…mirroring the emotional contours of Carlile’s songs in movement that sets attraction and rejection side by side\, blending them so that it’s difficult to tell what’s getting the upper hand.” \nDon’t miss out on this extraordinary finale — an evening of mesmerizing dance\, unforgettable music\, and raw emotion that will leave you craving more! \n“Under the Covers” takes place at 7 p.m. on May 30-31 and at 2 p.m. on  June 1 at the Tobias Theatre at Newfields\, 4000 N. Michigan Road. Tickets start at $35 for adults and $15 for Students. For more information or to purchase tickets\, visit dancekal.org.

SUMMARY:Indianapolis Opera presents WEST SIDE STORY at the Indianapolis Zoo
