Will Downing to play at Clowes

Soul singer Will Downing will perform Dec. 12 at Butler University’s Clowes Memorial Hall, 4602 Sunset Ave.

Downing is on tour to promote his “Lust, Love & Lies” album. Supporting act Najee appeared as part of September’s Indy Jazz Fest.

Christmas program at Jazz Kitchen

The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra will play at a special “Big Band Christmas” performance at The Jazz Kitchen, 5377 N. College Ave.

The event, which will have two sets, will be Dec. 7 from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The cover charge is $15 per person.

Local art at Indy Park

Beat the Black Friday crowd the weekend before Thanksgiving at the Garfield Park Arts Center (GPAC)’s Third Annual Preview Show and Autumn Art Fair featuring exquisitely hand-created, family-friendly, affordable items ranging in cost from 50 cents to $500 from 60 regional artists.

Groups and individual artists from Indianapolis, Brown County and Central Indiana are now displaying their unique wares at the Preview Show in the GPAC lobby. These items and more go on sale at the Autumn Art Fair on Nov. 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Available items for sale include ceramics, china, collages, drawings, fiber arts, glass, gourds, jewelry, leather, monotypes, mosaics, paintings, photos, poetry and sculpture.

New 2011 exhibit at IMA

The most extensive exhibition ever mounted of Thornton Dial’s painting and sculpture will premiere at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, 4000 Michigan Rd., on view from February 25 to May 15, 2011. “Hard Truths: The Art of Thornton Dial” will highlight the artist’s significant contribution to the field of American art and show how Dial’s work speaks to the most pressing issues of our time—including the War in Iraq, 9/11, and social issues like racism and homelessness.
