Warren’s Buckley player of the week

More by this author

The high school football regular season is over and teams now have their sites set on the state championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium. The tournament play begins on Oct. 21 and there are great first round games to look forward to.

Sectional 5

Game 1: Indianapolis Arsenal Technical at Lawrence North: The Wildcats beat the Titans 27-15 in a physical and entertaining week two game. The Tech Titans are finally healthy and are looking for their first Sectional victory over a non IPS school in more than 20 years.

Game 2: North Central (Indianapolis) at Warren Central: The Warren Central Warriors beat the Panthers 48-16 in week five. The Panthers will have to slow down the Warriors’ running attack and make some big plays against a Warrior defense that has 12 Division 1 college football players.

Game 3: Lawrence Central at Southport: The Lawrence Central Bears beat Southport 49-14 in week seven. Lawrence central QB Dre Townsend has had a great year for the Bears and has his team ready to make another state championship run.

Sectional 6

Game 2: Ben Davis at Zionsville: The Giants ended the regular season with a 20-10 loss to Carmel. After a tough MIC conference and non conference schedule, Ben Davis should be ready to make a state championship run.

Game 4: Pike at Decatur Central: The Pike Red Devils have had a rough 2011 season and will be playing a physical and well coached Decatur Central football team. The 7-2 Hawks running back Sean Gary is leading all Marion County class 5A running backs in rushing with 1,208 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Class 3A Sectional 21

Game 4: Indianapolis Northwest at West Vigo: The 1-8 Pioneers have two of the most explosive offensive weapons in the state in QB Delmario Lasley and RB Kendrick Caldwell and if both players are ready to play, the Pioneers can be poised to bring home their first sectional victory since 2005.

Sectional 22

Game 1: Indianapolis Howe at Edgewood: After winning four in a row, the Howe Hornets are stumbling into the playoffs with a two game losing streak, and have to find their mid-season enthusiasm and aggressiveness to beat the 6-3 Edgewood Mustangs.

Class 2A Sectional 30

Game 3: Indianapolis Broad Ripple at Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter: The Cardinal Ritter Raiders are perennial 2A powers and they have their sites set for another state championship run behind QB Jake Purichia and RB Logan Beaman, but the Rockets are in their first year in class 2A and are eager to establish themselves as contenders.
