Connecticut health officials say Hartford Hospital’s one-year probation will be extended indefinitely because investigators found new health care violations earlier this year.
The hospital was put on probation in February of last year after state officials said they found numerous patient care violations, including four cases in which people died.
Public Health Department officials say the new violations include a 13-inch medical instrument being left inside a surgery patient, who suffered sharp pain and had to have another surgery to remove the object.
Hospital spokeswoman Lee Monroe says the hospital has met all 77 requirements for improvement identified by a private consultant and continues to address remaining health department concerns.
