The 18 students who graduated Saturday from Morton Memorial High School at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown could be the last graduates in the home’s history.
Gov. Mitch Daniels’ administration is closing the state school for troubled or needy youth and will use it as home to a National Guard military academy for teens who have dropped out of high school.
Saturday’s graduation ceremony focused on the new graduates, but several of them said later that they were disappointed with the state’s decision.
Carolyn Boswell says the home helped her make a clean start in life. She says it’s a mistake for the state to close the facility.
