Indiana Sports Corp will distribute approximately 40,000 pieces of donated sports equipment and gear to youth organizations, including the Douglass Little League on Indianapolis’ east side. Much of the league’s equipment and gear was stolen recently from the league’s clubhouse.
Indiana Sports Corp’s Geared for Health program will assist with bats, balls, a pitching machine and other equipment, and the Lids Foundation will donate new sets of jerseys and baseball pants to the organization.
The distribution will be at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Oct. 20.
The Geared For Health program collects new and gently used donated sports equipment from manufacturers, retailers, institutions, events and individuals. The program helps make sports more accessible to underserved children and encourages commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
Over the past eight years, Geared for Health: Sports Equipment for Kids has collected more than $2 million in equipment and distributed that equipment for the benefit of more than 240,000 local youth through 260 Indiana youth-serving organizations
Jay’s Moving Company and Celadon have provided trucks to collect and move the equipment for the distribution. The donated items come from donations from the 160 companies that recently participated in the ISC Corporate Challenge, as well as other organizations such as the NCAA, USA Gymnastics, NIKE, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Pacers Sports and Entertainment and Visit Indy.
