IPS offers summer camps

More by this author

As we approach the end of the school year and the start of the summer, parents around the city are searching for productive summer activity programs for their children to participate in. We caught up with IPS District Director of Athletics Victor Bush to discuss the school districts plans for the summer.

Coach E: What sportsĀ programs will Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) offer this summer?Ā

Victor Bush: IPS will offer athletic camps in the following sports: girls’ and boys’ basketball, track and golf; volleyball, football, softball, baseball, soccer, wrestling and lacrosse.Ā

Ā

I have been to a lot of camps and kids spend most of the time standing around. How are these camps going to be different?

Well Coach E, our sports camps are 100 percent interactive.Ā Our varsity coaches have developed daily activityĀ schedules that require total student-athlete participation.Ā During our Champion camps, we expect all of our participants to work hard at improving and or developing their skills physically & mentally; learn theĀ life skills of leadership, teamwork, and accountability; compete and have fun!

Who will facilitate the camps?

All of our camps are conducted by our head varsity coaches with the assistance ofĀ our Athletes of Character.Ā We have some of the best coaches around the state of Indiana and it is important for them to start establishing rapport with student-athletes that reside throughout the Indianapolis community.Ā

What does IPS hope to achieve by hosting these athletic camps?

IPS looks forward to providing positive interactions with our children. The Champion Camps were created to show students that athletics can be used to assist them in achieving their academic and – in some cases – career goals.Ā

Can students who attend summer day camps or are involved with other community groups attend IPS summerĀ camps?

Yes, if the childrenĀ are in grades 4-8

How can parents sign their children up?

Visit our website www.IPSACsports.com and complete the application, then fax it to the IPS Athletic Department at (317) 226-3019. If you have questions, call (317) 226-4738.
