Local nursing community raising funds to help elderly in aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

A heartbreaking picture showing elderly people trapped inside an assisted living facility, sitting waist- and shoulder-deep in flood waters caused by Hurricane Harvey, has prompted an Indianapolis nursing community to raise funds that will be sent to help them.

Forest Creek Village, a senior community operated by American Senior Communities, is holding a fundraiser with all proceeds going to nursing communities in the Galveston County, Texas, area, where thousands of people have been affected by the hurricane and unprecedented catastrophic flooding.

Lunches will be sold for $5 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 31, at Forest Creek Village, which is located at 525 E. Thompson Road, Indianapolis. The catered lunch consists of pulled pork, green beans, chips and cookies. The public is encouraged to support the fundraiser.

Forest Creek Village staff and residents were moved to action after seeing the devastation caused by the hurricane.

ā€œMy team was pretty moved by the photo circulating of the residents in water up to their waists, and we are sure there are many situations like it that need help,ā€ said Colette Campbell, director of marketing and admissions at Forest Creek Village.
