Those who have enjoyed the literary work of Minister Delores Thornton are in for something special.
This weekend the Indianapolis author will officially release her sixth book, Airing Dirty Linen, with a book launch and signing from 5 to 7 p.m. at Diamonds in the Rough consignment boutique, 6239 Allisonville Road.
Guests will be able to enjoy refreshments during the free event.
Airing Dirty Linen is described as a “tale of family love, loyalty and friendship.” It is the story of four cousins, ranging in age from 17 to31, who live together in an inn that they manage in Indianapolis.
The parents of two of the cousins, Eternity and Nairobi Dobson, are deceased but they leave behind a lot of money and although they were dedicated churchgoers, they and other family members had dark secrets that have come to light.
Nairobi, the central character, prays for strength as she does all she can to hold the family together.
“At the beginning, Nairobi drives downtown to the Marion County Jail to bail out her cousin after he is accused of embezzling funds from a church where he is the trustee,” Thornton said.
Thornton is a member of the African-American History Committee Advisory Board of the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library, and has published six works through her company, Marguerite Press.
Thornton recently returned to writing after taking a hiatus to focus on her work in Christian ministry. She is now director of the Christian education department at Greater Galilee Institutional Baptist Church, and is pursuing a master’s degree at Christian Theological Seminary.
Thornton decided to finish Airing Dirty Linen after constant encouragement from excited friends and family members.
“Once I picked it back up I thought to myself, ‘how did I ever not follow through on this?’” Thornton said.
She described Airing Dirty Linen as Christian fiction, and says it is designed to inspire both those who believe in Christianity and readers who don’t.
“My goal is to show there is always hope and room for happiness, even if it seems like you have not had something worthwile in your life for a long time,” Thornton said. “No matter what’s going in your life, how old you are and what stage you are in, there’s always room for a miracle.”
