A Madison County couple have claimed a $2.5 million jackpot from the May 9 Hoosier Lotto drawing.

Jay and Pamela Smith of Summitville decided to take a lump-sum payment and received a pretax check for $980,296 Tuesday at the Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis.

Pamela Smith is a speech pathologist in the Mississinewa Community School Corp. in Grant County. She bought the winning ticket at a Muncie gas station, receiving the quick-pick numbers 9-13-14-32-36-44. The Smiths say they haven’t made plans for their winnings yet.

Lottery officials say it’s the third time in less than a month someone has won the Hoosier Lotto jackpot.

Also Tuesday, Robert Doane of LaPorte claimed a $1 million Powerball prize that he won after purchasing the Power Play option for the May 16 drawing.
