Each year, millions of Americans promise themselves a healthier lifestyle with exercise included. Newcomers pack the gyms and spend thousands of dollars in exercise equipment. (Let’s not forget the way smartphone application stores practically overload with downloads of calorie trackers and daily weight journals.)
Yet within a few short weeks or months, typically those looking to transform their bodies have said goodbye to their fitness goals, often saying they didn’t have the time.
If you are the person that claims to not have enough “time” to exercise, try working out before starting your day. Yes, this means waking up earlier than your normal time but it will be one way to jump start your day.
Following are five strategies to successful morning workouts:
1. Dress for Success
Why waste time with workout gear at 6 a.m.? Try sleeping in your workout clothes the night before. It’s one less thing to do in the morning.
2. Take some space from your alarm
It’s easier to hit the snooze button when your alarm is less than a foot away from you. Set your alarm clock across the room. This technique forces you to get out of bed, to turn it off and by that time you may as well stay awake and begin your workout. Also consider setting your alarm to your favorite upbeat song.
3. Use the buddy system
It is said that people complete tasks more often when someone else holds them accountable. Grab a friend or family member to join you on your morning workout. You wouldn’t want to disappoint a friend would you?
4. Don’t wait on breakfast
After you’ve finally rolled from under your warm covers, the last thing on your mind is preparing breakfast. Try mixing together your morning meal before bed. Smoothies, fruit, hard-boiled eggs and veggies are all great options.
5. Be creative
Workouts are not restricted to the treadmill, long walks or weights. Get creative with your workouts and try a class – Zumba, spinning and yoga are all alternate ways to workout.
