Ta-Nehisi Coates to take part in moderated conversation

More by this author

Ta-Nehisi Coates, a 2015 National Book Award winner and MacArthur Fellow, is coming to Indianapolis for the 42nd annual Marian McFadden Memorial Lecture, a moderated discussion, May 8 at Butler University.

Coates is the author of best-selling books ā€œWe Were Eight Years in Power,ā€ ā€œThe Beautiful Struggleā€ and ā€œBetween the World and Me,ā€ which won the National Book Award in 2015 for nonfiction work. He is also a writer in residence at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute.

In 2014, while a national correspondent for The Atlantic magazine, Coates published ā€œThe Case for Reparations,ā€ an especially suitable read — the audio version takes about 90 minutes to get through — now that Democratic candidates for president are being pushed to give their stances on reparations.

Aside from writing about politics and culture, Coates has an especially lofty status for fans of the comic superhero Black Panther. Coates is the author of several contemporary Black Panther comics, including ā€œBlack Panther: World of Wakandaā€ and ā€œBlack Panther and the Crew.ā€ He also wrote a series of Captain America comics in 2018.

Pre-sale tickets for the discussion aren’t available anymore, but open seats will be released 15 minutes prior to the event. Lines formed before 4 p.m. won’t be honored.
