LongHorn is a carnivore paradise

Vegetarians, dieters and those who profess to “eat right,” the following comment may shock you – so hold on to your seats: I love red meat.

Chicken is a staple in my diet and I certainly enjoy seafood. Bacon is my weakness, and I’ve begun to incorporate turkey into my meals.

That’s all fine, but there’s something about a good sausage lasagna, hearty beef taco or a tender filet mignon steak.

I have my favorite restaurants where I go to get a good steak, but those places typically require a special reason and ample funds. So when I recently dined at LongHorn Steakhouse with my family, I discovered I could have an excellent steak at a reasonable price.

Moo! Oh, I mean, yay!

I arrived at LongHorn prior to my aunts and discovered a packed parking lot. It was Saturday evening, but there were plenty of restaurants in the area that had measly lots so I took their high patronage as a good sign.

After a 30 minute wait, we were seated in the restaurant that straddled American eatery and cozy lodge.

Although we decided to skip the preliminaries and get to the main event, I thought the Parmesan crusted asparagus, firecracker chicken wraps, garlic mussels and shrimp and lobster chowder made for interesting appetizers and soups. You certainly don’t see that on most menus.

I must admit LongHorn’s menu was a bit intimidating, but in a good way. They serve so many wonderful items, I wanted to try them all. After long deliberation, I decided to go with the Flo’s Filet, my Aunt Helen ordered the Cowboy pork chops and my Aunt Wanda tried the Steakhouse burger.

My six-ounce steak was seasoned so well, I didn’t need any steak sauce. Fresh green beans and salad accompanied my entrée. My aunt’s pork chops looked so good I literally wanted to snatch one off her plate and tear into it. I restrained myself.

Although my aunt’s burger was standard, not all restaurants can do this meal well. Hers was cooked as she ordered it and satisfied her appetite. LongHorn also has a Primetime Burger that has shaved prime rib, sautéed onions, mushrooms and swiss with Parmesan garlic fries, au jus and horseradish sauce. Sounds delish!

We washed our meal down with cherry cokes and sweet tea.

I also ordered the Parmesan crusted chicken for my husband who wanted to indulge in what LongHorn had to offer without subjecting himself to a table full of women’s chatter. My fee for bringing home dinner was a bite of his meal and it was good!

I spent about $40, which is a bit more pricey than what I expected, but the food was so good, I didn’t mind.

Usually I know what I’ll order the next time I dine at a restaurant, but in this instance, I really have no clue. I’d love to have more of the Parmesan chicken, but the Napa Grilled chicken sounded good too. And so did the blackened salmon and cheddar grits. But the ribs looked scrumptious on our neighbor’s table, however the grilled chicken winter brie salad is seasonal so I might want to try it before spring comes into full swing.

See my dilemma? Too much good food to choose from!
