Kisha Tandy thinks understanding the past is key to building a bright future. She has spent the entirety of her professional life studying American history with an emphasis on the history of Black Americans. Tandy loves discovering the stories of little-known heroes of the past. She also has an interest in genealogy and is eager to help African-Americans discover their roots. As assistant curator of history and culture at the Indiana State Museum, collecting, examining and protecting history is all in a day’s work.
“There is such a rich history in Indiana, and I want to celebrate the stories of the trailblazers who have made a way for us. I want to tell the unique stories of lesser-known people who worked very hard. You have Andrew Means of Gary, who built homes; you have individuals who helped freedom seekers find safety. History and genealogy are so important to knowing your worth and value,” said Tandy.
