Shallos: a beer lover’s paradise

More by this author

Shallos Restaurant and Brewhouse is a locally owned restaurant with a unique atmosphere that includes friendly staff and walls covered with antiques from Indiana to England.

Located on the Southside of Indianapolis near U.S. 31, Shallos serves delicious pub-style food.

This is one of the few restaurants that my family of six can all happily agree on. Because of its variety, there is something for everyone.

The menu includes: chicken wings, burgers, a hot brown, fish and chips, tenderloins and nachos.

One of the restaurant’s specialties is the Shallos tenderloin, which is a grilled tenderloin with sautéed mushrooms, bacon, Swiss cheese, honey mustard, lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles.

To make your meal perfect, add an order of the homemade chips and dip, which is their most famous item on the menu. You should not leave without an order. The chips are always made fresh and are the perfect amount of crunchy and are served with a creamy, ranch-style sauce. My family and I may get a different main course dish, but we always get the homemade chips.

To complete your meal, select a beer from an expansive selection.

With one of the largest selections of beer in the Midwest, it is a hotspot for those who like to try exotic beer. Shallos’ collection from over 20 countries and local brews includes over 300 different types of bottled beer and 40 different types of draft beer that change constantly. There is something new to try every week.

With their expansive collection, my brother discovers a new beer every time we dine there.

Not only do they offer well-known beers like Guinness and Coors, but Shallos offers local beers from Upland Brewery.

They also offer beers from all over the world if you are feeling adventurous. This includes: Ireland, Belgium, Japan, Germany, Jamaica and many more.

Shallos is a favorite establishment among Southsiders, but hopefully all of Indy will hear about it and come to enjoy their delicious food. It is open for lunch and dinner daily.
