This is the final week of the regular season, which is bittersweet. I’m choosing to embrace the postseason, though, because I don’t think there’s a better state tournament in Indiana. The game I was really looking forward to — Attucks vs. Washington — kind of turned into a dud, but that’s OK. We can’t have everything we want. Sectional pairings were announces Sunday and are listed for each team.
Crispus Attucks (14-7)
• Feb. 15 — Crispus Attucks 78, George Washington 54
This Week:
• Feb. 21 — at Warren Central, 7:30 p.m.
• Feb. 22 — vs. Herron, 7:30 p.m.
Sectional: Feb. 26 — vs. Guerin Catholic (Class 3A Sectional at Guerin Catholic)
Although Attucks was probably a clear favorite against Washington last Friday, I really thought that game was going to be closer. Maybe that’s Attucks breaking out of a little funk?
Arsenal Tech (6-14)
• Feb. 12 — Zionsville 76, Arsenal Tech 57
• Feb. 15 — Arsenal Tech 69, Logansport 67
This Week
• Feb. 22 — vs. Ben Davis, 7:30 p.m.
Sectional: Feb. 26 — vs. North Central (Class 4A Sectional at Lawrence North)
That Logansport win is a pretty good one, especially at this point in the season. That sectional pairing against North Central is interesting because their early-season matchup resulted in a 61-57 win for North Central.
George Washington (9-9)
• Feb. 15 — Crispus Attucks 78, George Washington 54
This Week:
• Feb. 19 — vs. Lighthouse East, 7:30 p.m.
• Feb. 22 — vs. Indian Creek, 7:30 p.m.
Sectional: Feb. 26 — vs. Speedway (Class 2A Sectional at Speedway)
At least when you let at their records, Speedway (9-10) and Washington (9-9) are similar teams. They haven’t played each other this season, but Attucks has won the last four meetings.
Shortridge (8-12)
• Feb. 14 — University 40, Shortridge 32
• Feb. 16 — Shortridge 99, Indiana Math and Science 48
This Week:
• Feb. 19 — at Heritage Christian, 7:30 p.m.
• Feb. 22 — at Seton Catholic, 7:30 p.m.
Sectional: March 1 — vs. George Washington/Speedway (Class 2A Sectional at Speedway)
So close to 100! Still, 99 points is the most Shortridge has scored in a game dating back to at least the 2010-11 season. By the way, there’s a chance Shortridge and Washington meet in a sectional game. Washington beat Shortridge 63-60 in overtime Jan. 11.
