Get a Home Energy Assessment

More by this author

I recently read that by way of the statewide energy efficiency initiative, Energizing Indiana, Indiana saved more than 420 million kWh of energy in 2012. After learning about such progress and the positive impact Energizing Indiana has had on our state, I joined more than 37,000 Hoosier homeowners and received a Home Energy Assessment to do my part in creating a healthier environment for Indiana.

During my Home Energy Assessment, Energizing Indiana energy advisors inspected the exterior and interior of my home. They checked the energy efficiency of my appliances, heating system, insulation, sinks and showers, windows, doors and light fixtures.

When the advisors finished, I received a thorough report of their findings and recommendations for reducing my home’s future energy usage. Energizing Indiana also gave me a Home Energy Assessment kit full of energy-saving products, such as compact fluorescent light bulbs and water-saving sink aerators, something the advisors give every participating homeowner.

This was a valuable learning opportunity that identified easy-to-implement changes I can make to my home and my behavior to help reduce my family’s energy usage.

Costs for Home Energy Assessments are funded by utility rates, so there was no extra fee to participate. The ease of signup and the simplicity of having the assessment made the small investment of one hour of my time worthwhile.

The program is available to almost 90 percent of Hoosier homeowners, and I encourage anyone who is eligible to take advantage of it. You can find out if you’re eligible by visiting Energizingindiana.com and you can also schedule your assessment online. Or, if you prefer, you can call (888) 446-7750 to schedule.

This is an excellent resource for the state of Indiana and will lead not only to financial savings for homeowners but also to a cleaner environment and a better quality of life for Indianapolis residents.
