Get ready to rock at JOHNNY ROCKETS

More by this author

With the arrival of the Spring season and warmer weather, more people will be visiting their nearest mall to shop or relax with friends, and Johnny Rockets is the perfect place to grab a meal during your mall experience.

Situated in the massive food court of downtown’s Circle Centre mall, as well as a new facility at Castleton Square Mall, Johnny Rockets provides an experience that is unforgettable.
Its atmosphere offers a retro journey down memory lane for those who remember restaurants of the 1950s, and provides an entertaining history lesson for customers who grew up after that decade.
When patrons take a seat at a table or one of the old-fashioned counter stools, they should immediately notice the vintage celebrity posters, Coca-Cola ads and tabletop jukeboxes that (for a nickel) can crank out classics by everyone from Elvis, James Brown and Aretha Franklin to Prince and Destiny’s Child.
However, the most fun aspect of it all is watching the busy staff suddenly go from cooking and serving to breaking out in “sock hop” style ‘50s dance routines. You get used to it after awhile, but it never fails to at least bring a smile to your face.
As far as food is concerned, the Johnny Rockets menu mostly includes a variety of traditional fast food favorites such as cheeseburgers, hot dogs and onion rings. The most exceptional items are the burgers (which are thick, juicy and grilled, not flimsy and wimpy), apple pie, flavorful shakes and malts and healthy alternatives such as tuna melts and the Streamliner (a grilled veggie burger.)
The first Johnny Rockets restaurant opened in Los Angeles in 1986, with an emphasis on providing a friendly and unique dining experience for families. Currently, there are Johnny Rockets locations in 29 states (mostly on the East Coast, West Coast and the South), and the company opened its 200th restaurant last month.
For a while the Johnny Rockets facility at Circle Centre Mall was the only franchise in Indiana, but it has been recently joined by new locations in Castleton Square Mall, Greenwood and Anderson.
In recent years Indianapolis has witnessed the closing of several restaurants with a retro or pop culture theme (i.e. American Bandstand, Planet Hollywood.) Let’s do what we can to at least keep Johnny Rockets here, and have a fun experience with the family or a date in the process.
