Indy Chamber head steps down

The Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce is looking for a new president after Scott Miller announced his resignation Thursday.

Miller’s resignation is effective May 31, according to Board Chair John Thompson.

Miller says he wants to start his own business.

“This was a difficult decision, one that I have struggled with in the past few months,” Miller said. “I entered the public-private world five years ago when I joined Develop Indy after fifteen years in private business. What I’ve come to realize is that I’m an entrepreneur at heart and, at age 45, I want to pursue my ambition of starting or growing a company.”

The Indy Chamber includes Develop Indy, Indy Partnership, Business Ownership Initiative and the World Trade Club of Indiana.

“I want to thank Scott for his years of service promoting and advancing growth in our city. His leadership of the city’s economic development organization, Develop Indy; the Indy Chamber and the successful merger of those two great organizations has forged the creation of a single, strong voice for our business community that will continue to enhance our efforts to strengthen our economy,” said Mayor Greg Ballard (R-Indianapolis).

Miller was previously the CEO of Develop Indy, and before that, he was president of Mainscape, a large commercial landscaping company.

He also coaches girls varsity basketball at Guerin Catholic High School and serves on the boards of EmployIndy and Young Presidents Organization Indiana Chapter.
