(CNN) — The Braxton family wants you to know they are not trying to be like the Kardashians, thank you very much.
Traci, Towanda, Trina, Tamar and their mother Evelyn recently spoke with CNN about the second season of the WE reality show “Braxton Family Values,” on which they all star alongside the most famous Braxton, singer Toni.
The group says they are working on building their own reality TV legacy, one that is not at all like other families featured on the small screen. So what famous family would they most resemble?
“I would say the Jacksons,” said Trina. “Because they are a musical family and that’s what we do first. They are siblings, they are close, they fight, but at the end of the day they are a family — just like us.”
Every Thursday night, fans get to watch the family dynamic, which at any given time can range from loving to fussing. Evelyn admitted that she needed some coaxing from her flock of beautiful daughters before she would agree to venture into the land of reality TV.
“I didn’t know what to expect,” Mama Braxton said. “I just was nervous about it, so they had to really convince me.”
“The whole point of us doing the reality show was because it wasn’t a lot of ‘real’ in reality TV,” Tamar said. “I love reality TV, and that’s pretty much all I watch. I just felt like, we are a family and we could bring something different to the table.”
“We are just like any other family,” her mother said. “There’s the good, the bad and the ugly, but even throughout our trials and tribulations we love each other and we forgive each other.”
Fans of the show know that Tamar is often in the midst of the drama. Outspoken in her desire to find success as a solo artist (the sisters began as a singing group before Toni hit it big, and over the years her sisters have sung backup for her), there was a bit of friction in the first season.
Tamar says this season she has pulled back a bit.
“First of all, I’m a work in progress and I’m not perfect nor do I want to be perfect,” she said. “However, I do love my sisters and if I see something that’s bothering me…I feel like it’s my place to say something to them.”
Tamar asserts that she didn’t realize until watching the series that she was “popping off so much” — a trait which has had some label her as the show’s breakout star.
But she insists that she’s not nearly as outspoken this season as she has been – which is met by hoots from her sisters and lots of eye rolls. It’s a typical Braxton family moment.
And do the others have an issue that so much attention has been showered on Tamar? Not at all, they said.
“It’s just her season,” Traci said.
