Celebrate this Fourth of July

More by this author

Happy Birthday, USA! It’s time for the yearly celebration to embrace our stars and stripes with friends and family. With a touch of barbecue and hint of fireworks, festivities will take place all over town. Here is a list of events around Indianapolis to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Fourth of July Parade

The Historic Fort Benjamin Harrison Post 510 presents the Fourth of July Parade in Lawrence Township. The aim is to have a strong, positive presence in the Lawrence community, which is the go-to for veterans, active military, and their families. The parade begins July 4 at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Independence Day Social

Visit the home of America’s Hoosier President Benjamin Harrison, and try your hand at vintage games like hoops and graces. Sign your name to the Declaration of Independence or enjoy a tour of the first floor of the home complete with historic figures. Kids can make crafts and explore using a special free passport. Plus, cool off with a dip of ice cream for just $3 per scoop. All proceeds help benefit the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site. The social takes place July 4 from 1-4 p.m. and is free to the public.

Concerts on the Canal

The musical entertainment will feature a variety of styles, from jazz, blues and swing to rock, R&B and pop favorites. You may reserve a table on the Terrace or bring your own chair or blanket and sit on the grassy hill across the canal. Food service will be available. On July 4, the Indianapolis Municipal Band performs from 5 -6:15 p.m. Single seats are $10 and $8 for members.
