On Nov. 6, Americans voted for change, sending a Democratic majority to the House of Representatives for the first time since 2010. Hoosiers and voters across our country showed up at the polls in record numbers to deliver a clear message, a message that elections matter and every voice in our country counts. They called for diversity, inclusion and cooperation over hardline one-party ideology.
I am honored that in the midst of this call for a new approach, the people of Indiana’s 7th Congressional District are sending me back to Congress to fight for them. Over the last two years, I have been deeply impressed to see people across our city rally, write letters and engage with their government more than any other time in recent memory. These Hoosiers have a vision for our future that I am proud to carry with me.
They hope for a government that can come together across party lines to address critical priorities. They want stronger schools that prepare all our kids and opportunities for jobs that pay well and provide a path to a better life. They are calling for solutions that will keep our streets safe and finally tackle the unending loss of life from gun violence. They want health care that is high quality, affordable and reliable and to keep our promise to our seniors by protecting Medicare and Social Security.
These hopes are shared by all Americans and are not driven by partisan ideology or division. While our Congress is divided between the Democrats and Republicans, I am confident that we can make real progress on these critical priorities over the next two years.
After a tough election season, I am looking forward to starting the 116th Congress the right way, fighting for Hoosier values and Midwestern common sense. As I have said since I was first elected to Congress — we are better together. Together we can put our country back on the right course and build a better future for all Americans.
