One particular day, I woke up on the wrong side of bed. After a long prayer requesting a better attitude, some morning news, a long shower and a cheery wardrobe selection, I was ready to begin my day.
My extensive chat with God and a shower was well needed, but left little time for me to pack my lunch. I was able to stave off hunger with a waffle, but come lunchtime, my Eggo was long gone. I remembered a small eatery that served lunch called Foundry Provisions on 16th and Alabama streets in the historic Herron-Morton Place neighborhood.
So, I hopped in my car and headed for the restaurant. Based on its location, Foundry Provisions didnāt have a parking lot, but there was plenty of free parking on the street.
Going in, I knew their menu was humble, but contained items that your mother would be proud of and a selection that simply sounded delicious.
After a quick skim of the menu, I decided on the Kurt V hot pressed sandwich made with grilled Portobello mushrooms, roasted red pepper, spinach, provolone and garlic aioli. I ordered a Boylan crĆØme soda and together my lunch was about $10.
Honestly, I thought for that price, my lunch should have come with fruit, chips or something, but decided not to get myself upset again.
While I waited, I happily discovered that Foundry Provisions serves breakfast. That made sense because although it was about 12:30 p.m., aromatic coffee filled the air. During morning hours, hungry individuals can have breakfast sandwich, a bowl of granola or oatmeal, fruit, pastries from Circle City Sweets, cinnamon-sugar toast or a bagel made fresh by Shapiroās Deli.
Finally my name was called and I grabbed my lunch and headed back to the office. I knew my lunch was technically vegetarian, but I didnāt care. It smelled and looked delicious!
I took one bite and discovered why Foundry Provisions is all the rage right now. Its food is incredibly delicious. Every flavor meshed so well together and the garlic aioli was the cherry on top of this flavorful sandwich. All of the ample veggies were perfectly prepared and the bread was fresh and even added to the gumbo of flavors in my mouth.
I think I found a new sandwich spot. I think next time Iāll get the Tarkington made with smoked turkey, whole grain mustard, provolone, tomato and romaine. Other hot pressed sandwiches include the Harrison made with ham from Smoking Goose and the Morton made with mortadella, artichokes and a spicy sriracha mayo.
Although I didnāt get any extras, Foundry Provisions does offer tasty treats to accompany your breakfast or lunch such as sodas, water, chips, cookies and frozen goodies from Nicey Treat.
The Kurt V sandwich filled my belly and like chicken soup on a cold day, my lunch made life a little better. The love and care put into my sandwich was well appreciated and I certainly plan to go back on good days, bad days or any day Iām jonesing for a good sandwich.
