Creative brunch is served: Yolk

This has got to be my most anticipated restaurant review yet! I have been wanting to set foot into Yolk since the moment I heard the Chicago food chain was expanding to Indianapolis. Between construction and my busy schedule, I was unable to attend the grand opening, but I have to say it was well worth the wait.

The moment I arrived, I was artistically satisfied with the dĆ©cor. The splashes of deep blue and golden yellow dominate the modern atmosphere. Since I was dining alone, (yes, I was that desperate to visit this place) I asked for a small booth. My waiter, James was very friendly and charming. I decided on a cup of Rishi black tea complemented with honey and lemon as my beverage. The tea was served in a petite and bubble-like glass pot. I thought to myself, ā€œEven the glassware is modern.ā€

If you think Yolk only serves eggs, you’re going to miss out if you stop reading here.

If the breakfast classics are overrated, try one of their specialties such as the Smoked Salmon Platter. The dish includes a toasted bagel, cream cheese, red onions, tomato slices, capers and of course, smoked salmon. Wake up with their Good Morning Burger where an 8 oz. patty is topped with American cheese, hickory smoked bacon and a fried egg.

The Pot Roast Benedict, Margherita Frittata, and Banana-Blueberry Crunch Cakes are also popular. If you’re really into waking up your taste buds, try the South Beach entrĆ©e. It consists of half of a scooped out pineapple, filled with house-made Greek yogurt, diced pineapple, strawberries, almond-granola and walnuts.

Being the plain Jane I can oftentimes be, I settled for the Two Eggs and Meat dish where I enjoyed scrambled eggs, three turkey sausage links, a side of fruit (oranges, watermelon, pineapple, and grapes) and an English muffin. Despite the afternoon sunshine, I figured I couldn’t visit Yolk and not order breakfast. The best part of my meal was the service. Shortly after ordering, my meal was sitting in front of me. I kid you not, my meal was ordered, prepared and brought to me within 5 or 6 minutes, and it was fresh!

Over the course of eating, I was checked on by my waiter often and greeted by other servers as well. At the end of my visit I paid about $8 and had more than half of my meal to take with me on the go.
