Indy Eleven defender Anthony Herbert has been called up to the Trinidad & Tobago National Team for a pair of upcoming international friendly matches against South Korea and Russia, the team announced on May 26.

The 28-year-old defender joins the national squad ahead of its match against 2026 World Cup competitor South Korea at BYU’s South Field in Provo, Utah.

The team follows up the match with a June 9 fixture against Russia at Kaliningrad Stadium.

The matches form a critical part of Trinidad & Tobago’s preparations for the upcoming Concacaf Nations League campaign, which kicks off in September.

The selection marks a return to the senior international stage for Herbert. The Brooklyn, New York, native made his senior international debut for Trinidad & Tobago at the 2022 King’s Cup in Thailand. Before his senior recognition, Herbert was a staple of the twin-island republic’s youth system, representing the national team at the U15, U17, and U20 levels, which included anchoring the U15 squad that captured the 2013 Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Championship.

Here in the Circle City, Herbert served as a vital defensive anchor during his inaugural season with the Eleven. He currently ranks second on the team in clearances (43) and blocks (5), and ties for third in interceptions (6). He has also asserted his physical presence on the pitch, tallying 29 duels won and 17 aerial duels won on the year.

His two-way impact has already yielded critical results for Indy Eleven. On April 14, he earned USL Championship “Team of the Week” honors after delivering a brilliant midfield header to set up forward Loïc Mesanvi’s first USL-C goal against Monterey Bay FC.

On May 9, Herbert notched his first goal for the club, delivering a game-winning header in the 65th minute against Sporting JAX.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound defender arrived in Indianapolis with a robust professional resume. Herbert previously spent two seasons split between New Mexico United and Las Vegas Lights FC. He launched his professional career in 2022 with FC Haka in Finland’s top division, following successful collegiate careers at St. John’s and Fairleigh Dickinson.

While Herbert departs for international duty, Indy Eleven looks to maintain its momentum at home. The Boys in Blue aim to extend an unbeaten streak dating back to last season.
