Chile Verde – real Mexican, real fun

More by this author

Tired of restaurants who claim to offer real, authentic Mexican food but actually give you something that you can buy at the grocery store?

Then you might consider Chile Verde restaurant if you enjoy flavorful, fresh Mexican cuisine with real recipes from south of the border.

Chili Verde, which has two Eastside locations, offers a variety of traditional Mexican favorites, as well as several signature entrƩes that will leave you coming back for more.

Included on the vast menu are different types of enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, tacos,Ā  salads and chimichangas.

Popular selections include the Chipotle Burrito, which can be filled with grilled steak or chicken, topped with chipolte sauce and served with rice, lettuce, sour cream and pico de gallo, and Tacos De Carne Asada, which is slices of grilled steak, onions and cilantro stuffed into three warm corn tortillas on a plate with lettuce, pico de gallo, Chili Verde’s special sauce, rice and beans.

Several vegetarian options are also provided on the menu like the Jardin (Garden) Quesadilla, a blend of fresh vegetables, queso blanco, lettuce and tomatoes served with sour cream on the side.

Those who would like to try American classics with a Mexican twist can get the Jaslisco hamburger, the barbecued chicken sandwich or the Indy Burger, which includes cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and hickory barbecue sauce.

The desserts are simply unbelievable, and come in the form of flan, a traditional Mexico treat, sopapilla covered with honey butter and cinnamon, and of course fried ice cream.

Chili Verde is also well known for its lineup of beverages, including its celebrated watermelon margarita.

A children’s menu is available with plenty of items to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.

Chile Verde usually offers specials, including $5.99 lunch deals (from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), so don’t forget to ask when you visit. Various coupons are available on the restaurant’s website, www.chileverdeindy.com.

Chile Verde takes its commitment to authenticity seriously, even with the dƩcor. Recently, the Pendleton Pike location was renovated with a new dining room, kitchen and bar, complete with imported tiles and decorations from Mexico.

If you are looking for more than a tasty meal, Friday evening is the time to visit to have some fun. At 6:30 p.m., Mariachi Sol Jaliscience, a real mariachi band, provides live music. Of course, the group will give you a memorable dining experience by playing Mexican favorites, but is known for occasionally surprising guests with their renditions of American hits.

When you are ready to explore the true flavors of Mexico, try Chili Verde.
