I visited Northside Kitchenette in 2010 when it initially opened and I regret not going back since. I had forgotten about their honest, satisfying food and casual atmosphere.
Recently some friends of mine decided to get together for brunch and when one suggested Northside Kitchenette I immediately agreed to the restaurant choice.
Nestled in a plaza near 65th and College Ave. lies this eatery that brings people in for its ātasty midday fare.ā
As I walked into the space, I remembered why I initially loved the dĆ©cor ā itās a prototype of my dream kitchen. Northside Kitchenette has the perfect balance of minimalism, comfort and style.
Once we chose a table we were handed a menu and asked our drink choices. I chose the citrus green tea and my girlfriends chose water.
As I perused the menu, I noticed Northside Kitchenette served breakfast any time. I thought āthis is perfect for when I want an omelette at 2 p.m.ā Oddly enough I wasnāt really in the mood for breakfast and flipped the menu over to view their other items.
Now donāt get me wrong, their breakfast burrito, eggs benedict or kitchenāetteā sink (a half order of biscuits and gravy topped with potatoes, bacon, eggs and cheese) will certain fill you up. I had a taste for a good salad.
I decided on the panzanella chicken salad created with grilled baguette, tomatoes, cucumber, fresh basil, chicken, smoked mozzerella, topped with balsamic vinegar, olive oil and parmesan cheese.
My longtime friend since freshman year of high school ordered the brioche French toast for her sweet little girl from the kids menu and a spinach salad for herself. My other friend ordered the grown up version of their French toast. We all enjoyed our meal.
I think next time Iāll get the berry salad with chicken or the healthy southwest quinoa bowl.
One of the awesome things about being pregnant is that I get to bring forth life ā the downside, thereās a laundry list of things I canāt eat.
And on that list are things I enjoy eating. So after my baby is born, Iām headed to Northside Kithenette for the Cuban Sandwich (roast pork, black forest ham, swiss cheese, dill pickles and a secret mustard sauce); Billyās Italian (prosciutto, sopressata, pepperoni, provolone, field greens, tomato, mayo and spicy giardiniera); or the mile-high reuben (corned beef, swiss, Fermenti Artisan apple saurkraut and thousand island on rye).
Our sports writer, Danny Bridges always teases me about the restaurants I frequent. He says, āYou need to visit more meat and potatoes joints! No more of these fru-fru places!ā Well, Danny and fellow Recorder readers, I think Northside Kitchenette has an atmosphere fit for a dainty lady like myself, but has food options that will satisfy both fancy eaters and a burly, hungry man. Their portion sizes are ample and the prices are worthy of their fresh, wholesome food.
Visit Kitchenette! If you canāt make it to lunch, hang around Broad Ripple and visit their evening counterparts, Northside Social or Delicia.
