Job Growth Requires Education to Align Skills and Lower Unemployment

More by this author

With the recent announcement that Indiana’s statewide unemployment rate has ticked up for the second consecutive month, the need to create a properly trained workforce becomes crucial to meet projected growth.

As the Workforce Investment Board for Marion County, EmployIndy directs public and private funding to develop programs designed to connect employers with appropriately trained residents to fill open positions, driving the economic growth of our region.  The March 17th report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, stating a statewide unemployment increase to six percent, coinciding with substantial job growth projections, signifies increasing employer demand but a shortage in the supply of qualified candidates.

EmployIndy currently manages a variety of work-based training programs, targeting both youth and adults, including PowerTrain Indy, YouthBuild Indy and the upcoming Employ Up, which will target long-term unemployed residents returning to the workforce.  These programs encourage employer engagement through wage reimbursement opportunities. Employers seeking qualified applicants for open positions should contact EmployIndy for recruiting and screening services.  Residents seeking assistance with job seeking and training should contact WorkOne Indy.
