Without the guidance of a lawyer, navigating the judicial system can be both intimidating and confusing.
Indy-area residents are in luck: getting answers to legal questions from licensed attorneys will be easy AND free at Ask a Lawyer on Tuesday, October 13. Sponsored by the Indianapolis Bar Association (IndyBar), this one-day event will allow members of the public to meet face-to-face with volunteer lawyers at 13 locations throughout the city from 2 to 6 p.m.
Qualified, licensed attorneys will be available for free one-on-one consultations at the following locations:
Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center, Basement, Room C-B059, 1481 W. 10th St.
Elton H. Geshwiler Senior Citizens Center, 602 Main St., Beech Grove
Indianapolis Public Library Branches:

- College Library, 4180 N. College Ave.
- Eagle Library, 3325 Lowry Rd.

Anyone unable to visit a location is encouraged to call the IndyBar office, also on Tuesday, October 13, at 317-269-2000 from 2 to 8 p.m. to receive a free telephone consultation.
The Ask A Lawyer program has played a leading role in addressing the recent rise in unrepresented parties in the local court system. Statistics show that more than 50 percent of litigants in civil court cases are unrepresented. Ask A Lawyer gives individuals the opportunity to ask whether they have a matter worthy of court action, find out how to proceed or learn where to go for more information. Nearly 1,500 Indianapolis-area residents were assisted in 2014 through the program.
Ask A Lawyer is in its fourteenth year and is made possible by a grant from the Indianapolis Bar Foundation. The event is co-sponsored by the Indianapolis Public Library and Indianapolis Public Schools. The Indianapolis Bar Foundation also funds a variety of other legal advice and assistance programs offered throughout the year by the Indianapolis Bar Association.
