Police said the gunman who killed at least eight people and injured others late April 15 at a FedEx Ground Plainfield Operations Center fired randomly in the parking lot and killed four people before going inside and killing four more.

At a press conference April 16, police said they still don’t know for sure the identify of the suspect, but FBI Special Agent in Charge Paul Keenan said the agency was investigating a house.

Police later said the shooter, who appeared to die by suicide at the facility, was 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole.

Police said the gunman used a rifle.

Police have not identified any of the victims but said family should hopefully be notified in the next 24 hours. Police set up a family reunification center at a Holiday Inn near the facility, which is close to the airport.

Police also said they still don’t know the shooter’s motive or if he was a FedEx employee.

At the press conference, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief Randal Taylor said officers who responded to the scene saw ā€œsomething really no one should see.ā€

Mayor Joe Hogsett said Indianapolis is a resilient community. This was the city’s third mass shooting in 2021.

ā€œI know that our residents will rally together,ā€ he said. ā€œThe eyes of the nation are on Indianapolis today.ā€
