Forty-nine years ago, the nation was stunned by the untimely murder of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. On that fateful evening, Robert F. Kennedy delivered a speech in Indianapolis creating a moment that has been discussed and memorialized ever since.Ā
This year, community residents and civic leaders will gather at Kennedy King Park from 5-6:30 p.m. to honor the occasion at the annual April 4 Commemoration. The free event will feature master-of-ceremonies Rafael Sanchez of WRTV-6, Mayor Joe Hogsett, Pastor David Greene of Concerned Clergy, vocal stylist Vickie Daniel, poet Januarie York, and a very special trailblazing peacemaker who is not even 10 years old.
After the ceremony, attendees are invited to stay for a soul food meal compliments of Kountry Kitchen. For more information, visit kennedykingindy.org.
