Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard wants the General Assembly to raise the alcohol and car rental taxes in Marion County to help cover a budget shortfall for the city agency that oversees the stadiums for the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers.
Ballard went before the Capital Improvement Board on Monday to propose an approximately $50 million plan to keep the board in the black.
Ballard says the alcohol tax increase would raise $11 million to $13 million for the board if all the money the tax increase raised remained in Marion County.
He says raising the car rental tax would raise about $2 million.
A previous plan in the General Assembly to raise alcohol taxes statewide has been dropped because it met too much opposition.
