The title is misleading I know. I don’t always serve ice cream for breakfast. In fact, to date, as my daughter approaches her second birthday, I can say that it’s only happened once. *cues applause*
I titled this “ice cream for breakfast” because, as parents we always wait for the perfect moment to eat the celebratory foods like cake and ice cream, and I’m left wondering why? Isn’t the fact that you got up on time, made it out of the house without a hitch cause for celebration? In my world it is.
Before I became a parent, I had the list (the things I said I won’t do when I become a parent list). Nowadays, that list is down right laughable. I’m making myself more open to having ice cream breakfast (in moderation) and taking the time to enjoy life as is.
There are so many hard lines in this world, or so we think. When you’re not a parent, you think of all things you’re going to be able to control as a parent. In reality, it’s not like that at all. Just a few weeks ago, my daughters school had nursery rhyme day where each member of the 2-3 year hold group presented a shadow box recited their favorite nursery rhyme. In pork loving fashion, our little lady chose “The 5 Little Piggies.”
After each presenter finished, the class celebrated with that- ice cream of course. Smack dab in the middle of the day. Why? Because toddler life is awesome, and reciting a nursery rhyme at age 2 is pretty amazing. What a way to celebrate and have a tasty treat. No, my daughter doesn’t always have ice cream for breakfast or even dessert, but it sure is nice to indulge it just because.
Bio: I’m Candace. I’m a Mid-Western born and raised home chef who loves to make family recipes and cultivate new flavors. I’m a wife, mom, daughter, and sister who believes in the power of a home cooked meal. I’ve been in the kitchen for over 20 years, making meals that are fun, flavorful and feisty. As the story goes (my father loves to tell it) I made my first egg at the age of six and the rest is history. Whether throwing a dinner party, making my daughters favorite macaroni and cheese or chili for the big game, I live and love food. Food and family is a connector for me. I share good eats and food for your soul over at foodlovetog.com, I hope you’ll stop by and grab a bite.
