Beer On Wheels

More by this author

The traditional bar scene can be fun but also monotonous, and bar hopping gets expensive after a few drinks. However, three local businesses are changing that by switching up the bar scene in a unique way.Ā

Get on the bus

The Brewery Tours of Indianapolis is a great option for anyone looking to add a twist to the same old bar scene. Each tour takes you to four local craft breweries where you can meet local brewers, try samplings of the beer and enjoy bottled water on the bus. The bus also is equipped with coolers to keep your purchased growlers cold. The bus can seat up to 21 people. Seats are pre-purchased, and the tour takes about three and a half hours. A growler on the bus holds up to two gallons of beer and cups are on the bus as well. Pickup locations are at Brother’s Bar and Grill locations in Broad Ripple and Indianapolis.Ā

Prices start at $35 per person and for groups $750 for private groups.

Pedal the day away

Two other local businesses bring the party to you — but with a catch. Handle Bar Indy and The Pickled Pedaler are mobile just like the Brewery Tour of Indianapolis, but with these two you help pilot the ride by pedaling the tour along.Ā

You can rent a 16-passenger pedal pub through Handle Bar Indy for a two-hour tour on the streets of Indianapolis. You can bring your own beer or favorite beverage on this mobile bar. Prices range from $25 to $35 a passenger, depending on time and date of the tour.Ā

Your driver controls the route unless you have specific destinations that you desire to see. The typical route includes stops at three popular areas downtown: Monument Circle, Mass Avenue and Georgia Street.Ā

The Pickled Pedaler lets you pedal to downtown pubs and breweries. This custom designed party bike holds up to 14 passengers and includes an electric assist so you’ll still have energy to keep pedaling to taste the different brews. Beer, wine, pre-mixed drinks or pre-packaged mixed drinks are preferred to bring on the bike and must be in aluminum cans or plastic containers. Hard liquor shots and glass aren’t permitted. The Pickled Pedaler provides one large frosty cooler. Private Tours start at $300 if you rent the entire bike. Public tours start at $30 per seat for small groups (a minimum of 8 people).
