I’m a fan of Lincoln Square Pancake House. I first started going to the 56th Street and Emerson Way location after the group of ladies I belly dance with on Saturday mornings invited me. That location is near my class, and I’m a sucker for a late breakfast/brunch.
Imagine my surprise and happiness when I moved to a new house and discovered a Lincoln Square right around the corner from me on 21st Street and Shadeland Avenue. This is actually the first location in Indianapolis.
My usual is an omelet and a mini waffle. Those waffles are perfect — crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and the right size to fulfill that waffle fix. If I’m in a meat-eating mood, I opt for the turkey and spinach omelet; otherwise I go for the veggie lovers omelet. I learned a long time ago to ask for a two-egg omelet instead of three or else I can’t finish it all. Another reason why I love them: they don’t skimp on the food. However, a three-egg omelet, hash browns and a mini waffle is too much for me. You wouldn’t think removing one egg would make that much of a difference, but it does. Although I’ve eaten a variety of entrées for dinner, I often choose the Greek salad with gyro meat. It’s huge! My daughter loves the red velvet pancakes. The red velvet pancakes are stuffed with cream cheese, drizzled with chocolate sauce and a sprinkle of powdered sugar. It’s her favorite, go-to meal — no matter what time of day.
I visited the Meridian Street location for lunch recently. I chose a Greek salad, of course. It’s actually called, My Big Fat Greek Salad, if that tells you anything about the size. Unless I haven’t eaten all day, the salad is too much for me to eat in one sitting, so I boxed up about half of it. When the salad came to the table, everyone commented on its size. The salad is chock full of Kalamata olives, chunks of feta cheese, cucumbers, eggs, onions, tomatoes, green peppers and whole pepperoncini peppers on Romaine lettuce. Adding gyro meat or chicken is an additional $1, salmon $2.
The food or service didn’t disappoint. I know no matter which Lincoln Square Pancake House I go to, there are 10 total, the menu and service will be consistent. I’ve come to expect good food at an affordable price, and they usually deliver. On the rare instance I’m not satisfied, the restaurant manager fixes the problem. With service and food like this, I’ll stay a fan and continue going for another decade or more.
