As they embarked on their morning commute, many motorists in Indianapolis woke up to the nasty surprise of messy streets that appeared unplowed and unsalted.
Some motorists placed posts on Facebook and Twitter Thursday morning to air their frustration about long commutes to work, numerous slide-offs from slippery roads and the cityās perceived lack of work by road crews as snow continued to fall.
On Facebook, one motorist wrote, āI am currently doing 15 mph on the roads. They really are bad so be careful. Has anyone done anything out here?ā
At press time, the Department of Public of Public Works, which oversees city streets had not provided a statement on the cityās response to the fallen snow. However, in earlier coverage, Public Wokrs and the Indiana Department of Transportation, which takes care of state highways in the area, have said their snow crews were out in full effect.
Winter weather advisories were issued across the state Wednesday before approximately four to five inches of snow accumulated starting during the early hours of Thursday morning, and it has continued to build into the afternoon. Heavy winds blew packed snow as it drifted across streets and temperatures slowly fell into the teens.
Concerns about road conditions increased among residents who know that The National Weather Serviceās Winter Weather Advisory for central Indiana will not be lifted until 7 p.m.
