Two babies and their mothers were shot to death this week on the near Northeastside of Indianapolis, according to Indianapolis Metro police.
Victims Gina Hunt and Andrea Yarrell, both 24 years old, were shot repeatedly Monday while holding their two children, Jordan Hunt, 23 months, and Charlii Yarrell, 4 months.
According to Sgt. Paul Thompson, police first received a 911 call about a possible burglary in a vacant home located in the 3200 block of Hovey Street. A second call was made to police regarding shots fired. Police suspected both calls were related.
A local source reports Andrea was talking on the phone to her boyfriend, Gene Boyd, when attackers entered the home. He then called his mother who called 911.
“He heard the shots,” said Boyd’s mother, Annie Boyd. “He was on the phone. They were talking and she heard something at the door. He heard the shot, then heard Gina holler out, ‘Those are my babies!’ After that, the phone went dead.”
The 911 call sent police to the wrong address, said Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Sgt. Matthew Mount. Once they found the correct house three of the victims were found dead while victim Charlii died at Methodist Hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Police are investigating reports that two men were seen running from the home. Detectives found two handguns near the house, said Mount. Inside the home, officers found a safe, about a pound of marijuana, an electronic scale, ammunition and three long guns.
At Recorder press time, no arrests had been made.
More than 80 investigators, homicide detectives, aggravated assault and narcotics units, the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have been brought in and are working nonstop to find the killers.
Marion County Sheriff Frank Anderson asked the public to help police track the killers and vowed to hunt them down “like dogs.”
“We’re not going to stop until we find you and put you in a cage where you belong,” said Anderson. “There’s a special place in hell for you, and we’re going to see that you get there.”
Police are also investigating a similar break in last September at the same residence.
No arrests were made after Gina Hunt told police about two armed men broke into the home on Sept. 27 and threatened to shoot her, the baby she was holding and another woman and child. Recent findings show the suspect was looking for a man who is now cooperating with police.
“(Hunt) was pleading for the life of everyone in the house,” an officer wrote in the report. It was reported that the gunman took Hunt’s cell phone and the house phone and fled the scene.
Police also were called to the home in August. Burglars stole $5,000 worth of sweat suits, jewelry worth $250, a $4,500 plasma TV and a $200 table, according to a police report.
