With an IndyGo Summer Youth Pass, children and teens – ages 18 and under – can hop aboard the bus and ride to museums, the zoo, summer school, Indy Parks, jobs and other destinations throughout Marion County from June 1 to August 31. This year, IndyGo is collaborating with the Marion County Commission on Youth (MCCOY) and Summer Servings to help promote access to youth services within our community.
“Learning to use transit is a life skill and the summer youth pass program is typically the first entrance into the world of mobility independence,” says Samantha Cross, vice president of IndyGo. “Transportation is often the missing link for access to services promoted by MCCOY and Summer Servings and the youth pass provides an accessibility option.”
The Summer Youth Pass is available through IndyGo Customer Service and is valid June 1 – August 31 for only $30, a $60 savings.
“MCCOY acts as a resource for young people to utilize Indy’s employment, cultural, and recreational offerings during the summer,” said Jim Wark, Executive Vice President of Marion County Commission on Youth. “MCCOY is proud to partner with IndyGo in raising awareness for the valuable community resource for youth.”
Children ages 18 and under are eligible for the Summer Youth Pass and IndyGo Half Fare Programs. Passengers using the youth pass or any reduced fare pass must present a valid student ID (K-12) or an IndyGo Half Fare ID card when riding the bus. ID cards may be obtained for only $2 by completing the Half Fare ID card application, available online at IndyGo.net or at the Customer Service Center. Half fare ID applications must be completed and presented in person at the Customer Service Center, located at 34 N. Delaware Street.
“Indy Hunger Network provides an excellent program to ensure children do not go hungry over the summer months,” said Dave Miner, Chair of Indy Hunger Network. “Both IndyGo and Summer Servings help serve the children of our community to ensure transportation and nutritional needs of the youth of Indianapolis are met.”
An additional perk for 2012 Summer Youth Pass holders is free admission to the Indiana Historical Society’s Indiana Experience at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center. The Indiana History Center is conveniently location at 450 W. Ohio Street, with convenient transit access.
