Dr. Eugene White, superintendent of Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) was recently a candidate for similar positions in Greenville, S.C., and Mobile, Ala. School boards in both cities this week elected to go with a different candidate.
āRecently, there were two job opportunities in the Southeast thatĀ I was invited to pursue andĀ I expressed interest in. While I interviewed in both cities, I was not extended a job offer,ā he said in a statement Friday. āDespite continuing to receive offers toĀ interview from across the country,Ā I am not looking for another position. I’m going to do what needs to be done in IPS. I’m going to make sure we put the best programs in place to continue to improve the educational opportunities for our students.ā
Some may question how White will now be perceived after considering these job offers and his level of commitment to IPS.
