Pre-paid wireless brand debuts in Indy

More by this author

Aio Wireless, a pre-paid wireless brand that offers mobile voice and data service for the value-conscious consumer, has recently added Indianapolis to its growing list of national markets.

Since its launch in May 2013, Aio has opened in 17 markets, with plans to continue expanding.

In Indiana, Aio has opened 10 stores thus far with plans for six more openings by the end of February. ā€œIndiana is an important market for us as a whole – we’ve been getting a great response so far,ā€ said Jermaine Spight, the senior public relations manager at the company.

Spight said that Aio’s ā€œsimplicity in customer service and pricingā€ are two key factors that set it apart in the steadily growing mobile service provider industry. Aio currently offers a three-tiered pricing structure with plans costing $40, $50, and $60 including taxes and fees. Each plan comes with unlimited talk and text, as well as high-speed data.

The data plans however, vary depending on price with the least expensive plan offering 500 MB of data and the most expensive offering 5 GB of data.

New customers are able to choose from a variety of devices including Samsung Galaxy and iPhone, or opt to bring their own device from an alternate provider.

To attract more customers, the brand is offering a $5 credit on monthly bills for those customers electing to participate in Aio’s ā€œAuto Payā€ program as well as ā€œRefer-A-Friendā€ which gives customers $25 Referral Rewards in the form of service credits awarded to their Aio account.

In addition to providing mobile service, Aio, a subsidiary of AT&T, seeks to align with initiatives geared toward activism in the neighborhoods where their independent dealer-run retail stores are located.

In Houston and Orlando, Aio’s 30 Days 30 Dreams program partnered with local agencies to identify student leaders. Of those selected, Aio distributed $1,000 scholarships and ZTE Velox tablets. Spight shared that these are the types of initiatives the mobile brand seeks to bring to the Indianapolis market.

ā€œWe are definitely a community brand,ā€ said Spight. ā€œWe have a grassroots organization that ties in with local organizations to give back to the community and enhance the communities where stores are located.ā€
