Sigma Gamma Rho hosts Founders’ Day Ball

The Alpha Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated will be celebrating 93 years of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service on Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Marott. We will be celebrating our Founders and honoring individuals within the community as we “UnMask the Future” in a masquerade-style themed ball. As with each years’ event, we will recognize and honor several Indianapolis Community Members with the “Blazing Torch Awards” for their support of our Indianapolis youth, passion for education and their work within our community.

Awards will be presented to Earl Martin Phalen founder the George and Veronica Leadership Academies and Dr. Arthur Hochman from Butler University College of Education. The night will include our hostess Liz Faith Dixson, a silent auction, vendors and entertainment that will be performed by the Underground Groove, a local Indianapolis band. Cocktail hour will begin at 6:00pm and the program will start at 7:00pm.

Liz Faith Dixion is a media mogul in the making with many years of experience in radio and tv! Liz has blazed the airwaves of Indy’s #1 Urban media group Radio One for 8 years and has been On-AIR ICON most recently on AM1310 THE LIGHT AND ON HOT 96.3, 106.7 WTLC, RADIO NOW 100.9, AND INDY’S MUSIC CHANNEL! Liz is a community leader and loves to give back to others. She currently runs her own Media and Public Relations firm. Media concept Soulutions is her firm where she serves athletes, corporations and media personalities.

Earl Martin Phalen deeply committed to the education of children and as a result of his proven track record of success is widely recognized as one of the nation’s top social entrepreneurs. Earl founded Building Educated Leaders for Life (BELL), which operates after-school and summer education programs in several major U.S. cities. Under Earl’s leadership, the organization grew from a local community service project to a national non-profit educating 15,000 children annually.

Dr. Arthur Hochman earned his Ph.D. from the Teachers College at Columbia University. Teaching at Butler University since 1989, Dr. Hochman’s expertise is Curriculum Development and Construction Arts Integration. With focus on Early/Middle Childhood curriculum, he was chosen as the first Richard W. Guyer Chair in Education (the 1st endowed chair in the college). An author, conference presenter, keynote speaker and grant writer, Hochman is a member of the Center for Citizenship & Community Advisory Committee, the Service Learning Operational Team and is the Chair for the University Student Affairs Committee.
