Don’t starve at Union Jack Pub

More by this author

As many of you know, I love pizza, but sometimes when dining with friends, others may have a hankering for something different. That’s why Union Jack Pub, located in Broad Ripple, is the perfect place for crowd who simply wants what they want.Ā

Begin your meal with an appetizer or two for the table. Union Jack offers your typical pub grub, but doesn’t skimp on the flavor or portion size. You can’t go wrong with a basket of wings and an order of mozzarella sticks.

Union Jack offers various soups and salads, but items on the pub favorites portion of the menu are where the real food action is. Try the fish and chips or the award winning ultimate burger topped with smoked ham, bacon, Swiss cheese, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and 1000 Island on Texas toast.

For those who are eating light, try the Cajun turkey burger.

In the mood for a sandwich? Order the Italian Beef Chicago Style, complete with giardiniera peppers on a grilled ciabatta bun with Italian au jus or the Cuban made with pulled pork, ham, hot pepper jack cheese, brown mustard and aioli sauce served New England style on a grinder bun.

This smoke-free establishment also offers Indiana favorite, the pork tenderloin. In addition to these three suggestions, Union Jack offers 13 other types of sandwiches (good luck choosing one). They also offer several items for vegetarians.

Now here comes my favorite part – pizza. I’ve tried every type of pizza they offer and you really can’t go wrong with either.

East Coasters spending time in Indy can appreciate their New York thin crust pizza. The U.J Stuffed Pizza Pie is quite exciting and deliciously out of the box.

My favorites are the U.J Authentic regular style pizza and the award winning U.J Chicago Style deep-dish pan pizza. Seriously, the Chicago style pizza satisfies my deep-dish fetish when I can’t travel to the Windy City.

No matter which pizza you choose, order one with crowns or toppings. At other pizza chains (even ones I love), I typically order my pizza with several toppings, but at Union Jack, I only get either sausage or pepperoni. It’s so good you really don’t need a whole lot of extra stuff.

Union Jack’s also has several specialty pizzas such as the buffalo chicken pizza: New York style crust basted with Louisiana Hot Wing Sauce then topped with diced chicken, red onions, mozzarella and bleu cheese crumbles. Mmmm!

I told you Union Jack had a lot of options that would fit anyone’s palate. But just when you said to yourself “I’m going to starve to death trying to figure out what to order when I visit Union Jack” there’s more – Sunday brunch. This already reasonably priced eatery has drink specials and dine-in specials.

The British-themed restaurant has two sides, one more family friendly and the other for the adult crowd each containing TVs for plenty of sports watching. I’ve eaten on both sides and they both offer great service. The “bar side” even has a garage-door style window that’s perfect for people watching in the summer.

Actually, I dine at Union Jack Pub year round and what keeps me coming back is their consistency in great service and incredibly awesome food.
