In my quest to become svelte for the summer season, I have been focusing on eating lighter foods. I am not an advocate of eating rabbit food to slim down and like my salads and sandwiches robust.
Despite the name, Potbelly Sandwich Shop provides that and more.
I had eaten at a Potbelly restaurant years ago, so when I noticed a location on Monument Circle I put the eatery in my mental Rolodex for future reference.
One day I was busy doing errands when I remembered that I hadnāt eaten since breakfast. It was well after lunchtime and I wanted to get something to eat that would hold me until dinner, but not weigh me down since I had more errands to run.
As I drove around Monument Circle, I saw Potbelly, found a parking space conveniently near the small restaurant and went in to jog my memory of what they had to offer.
As a sandwich lover, I looked at their interpretation of a good sandwich first. The pizza sandwich, made with pepperoni, marinara sauce, provolone cheese, mushrooms and Italian seasoning sounded good. So did the tuna salad sandwich.
I decided I wasnāt really in the mood for a sandwich and glanced over to check out their salads. The Chicken Salad Salad sounded appealing, but the Uptown Salad is what really caught my eye. Itās made with all-natural grilled chicken, grapes, apples, dried cranberries, walnuts, red onion and blue cheese.
They only offer four kinds of dressings, which in my opinion, is a good break from the boring, traditional offerings. For my Uptown Salad, I chose the Potbelly vinaigrette, which paired perfectly with my salad.
In my state of hunger, but that salad was so delicious I devoured it. I had a generous portion of food and it wasnāt all lettuce either. The chicken was tender and juicy and the additional ingredients tasted well together.
I washed it down with a bottle of Sweet Leaf mint and honey green tea. Potbellyās has soft drinks, but you may also want to check out their huge beverage case that includes brands you donāt find in most places.
I spent about $8 on my meal.
Devout Restaurant Spotlight readers know that if a restaurant is good, I have every intention on returning. Well, Iāve already made good on this promise. Since initially eating at Potbellyās on Monument Circle, Iāve gone back at least three more times. I must confess that I havenāt tried anything else on the menu except the Uptown Salad, but I will try to expand my selections next time. Since the salad is so good, I thought I should go with what I know.
Maybe Iāll try a sandwich, a side of potato salad and a cookie next time. They also offer hand-dipped shakes and smoothies mixed just the way you want with real wholesome ingredients and flavors ā perfect for a hot summer day. Once the weather turns cold again, Iāll look into their soups and chili.
In addition to an amazing salad, what I also like about Potbellyās is that its menu isnāt jam packed with a thousand choices. Sometimes restaurants can be jacks of all trades and masters of none. Not the case with Potbelly. They have quality food, friendly service and items they can execute quickly and do well each and every time.
Maybe thatās why I keep going back for more.
