Dance Kaleidoscope presents season finale ‘Under the Covers’

Dance Kaleidoscope is presenting its season finale “Under the Covers” May 30-June 1 at the Tobias Theatre at Newfields.

Prepare for an unforgettable season finale packed with passion, creativity, and dazzling performances! Atlanta-based choreographer Autumn Eckman, alongside Christel DeHaan Artistic Director Joshua Blake Carter, bring you a thrilling, crowd-pleasing showstopper that will leave you breathless, according to a press release.

With an impressive career that spans Giordano Dance Chicago, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and State Street Ballet, Eckman is ready to set the stage on fire with a world premiere that promises to be nothing short of electrifying. As the Chicago Tribune raves, “Eckman is a bright choreographic stylist, mixing solid design with color and sparkle.” Her innovative choreography is sure to captivate and inspire.

Meanwhile, Carter takes the spotlight with “Under the Covers,” a world premiere set to the hauntingly beautiful voice of vocal artist James Blake. Featuring covers of iconic songs by Roberta Flack, Billie Eilish, and Beyoncé, this powerful work delves into the complexities of human relationships behind closed doors—the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly.

And that’s not all! Back by popular demand, Carter’s 2024 Stories from the Corner Bar returns, featuring the soul-stirring music of Brandi Carlile. As Jay Harvey Upstage describes it, “…mirroring the emotional contours of Carlile’s songs in movement that sets attraction and rejection side by side, blending them so that it’s difficult to tell what’s getting the upper hand.”
