Greater Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church is excited to announce its 90th Church Anniversary Banquet, which will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Primo Banquet Hall, located at 2615 National Avenue. The event will feature special musical guests Men in the Fire and a sermonette delivered by Pastor Shawn Floyde of New Christian Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
This milestone celebration comes after the church recently faced a significant challenge when a fire caused substantial damage to its building. Early one morning, church leaders were alerted by the security system and arrived to find the church engulfed in flames. Though many belongings were lost, the building itself, along with the pews and a Bible, miraculously survived the blaze.
For 90 years, Greater Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church has served as a cornerstone of the Riverside community, providing a place of worship for its 40-member congregation. Despite the setback, the church remains steadfast in its mission, with the upcoming anniversary banquet symbolizing a new beginning for the congregation.
Pastor Ramon Batts expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from fellow
churches and community members. “This fire is not the end of our story; it’s a new chapter in the history of our church. We will continue to worship, celebrate, and look toward a brighter
future,” Batts said.
