We are WOKE and staying awoke

More by this author

ā€œAnd He it is Who makes the Night as a Robe for you, and Sleep as Repose, and makes the Day (as it were) a Resurrection.ā€ Qur’an,  chapter 25, verse 47

American slavery and its ugly history are the property of Caucasian, a.k.a. ā€œwhite folks.ā€ They created it, perpetuated it and to this day, they are still benefitting from its residuals. The victims of America’s debilitating slavery, namely African Americans, a.k.a. ā€œBlack folks,ā€ are still waking up to their natural G_d-given human potential — a scary proposition for some (not all) white folks who are still benefiting from slavery’s residual effects.

Too late!

The children of Africa have eked out a new home in America and Allah has woken us to our responsibility to Him, family, and our unique connection to the American experiment of ā€œdemocracy.ā€ Our Creator woke us up, as he has awoken all other people from their nightmares of oppression.

American slavery may have been a dream for the white folks who perpetuated slavery, but for Black folks, it was a hellish nightmare. And despite the fact that some modern-day politicians and powerful business people want African Americans to remain dormant and sleepy-eyed, it ain’t happening; our Creator has woken us up. We are W.O.K.E. — and we’re staying awoke.

The awakening of any American is never connected to the ball and chain of U.S. federal funding. Any institution or people chained to federal and state funding are compromised; however, no one in government can threaten to defund our striving for full freedom or our full citizenship. No man, or a group of men in government, whether in the White House or the State House, can scare us away from our resurrection (awakening) and our responsibility to think and act for ourselves as fully free Americans.

Our African origins were greatly disrupted by the evils of American slavery.

Imam W. Deen Mohammed said, ā€œOur history begins in America, in the South and in the North as a new people. If we are a new people, then G_d is obligated to help us, to work with us. In the Bible, it asks a question first, ā€˜Will a man rob G_d?’ G_d is speaking. ā€˜Yes, you have robbed Me of this whole people.ā€™ā€

Those who promote this current ā€œanti-woke movementā€ are working against G_d’s plan and the redeeming spirit that our Creator innately places in human nature.

Continuing this thought pattern, Mohammed added, ā€œIf we would just register that (we are a new people) and understand that, we would go forward. You don’t even need the help from G_d. Your nature will thrust you. Your own nature will push you forward; will urge you to go forward.ā€

Mohammed further emphasized his point. ā€œA baby learns how to walk on its own intelligence, power and energy. A baby learns how to crawl, to stand up, how to walk. A baby learns our language and how to talk on its own energy. What is that energy? The energy of new life. So, if we accept that we are new people, we will have the energy of new life helping us … Now, if you believe in Scripture like I do, you will, also, know that G_d is on your side.ā€

Dear people, we cannot stop now.

We are W.O.K.E. — and we are staying awoke. President Donald J. Trump and the political far-right can’t highjack our woke-ness. Our rising up out of the deep sleep of slavery and the social immaturity of Jim Crow is not tied to federal funding. Our waking up is our resurrection as a new people. You can’t put a federal price tag on a people’s resurrection — IMPOSSIBLE!

President Donald Trump and Indiana Gov. Mike Braun, yes, you may bullishly defund schools and other cherished American institutions in order to get your way, but you can never defund the American soul, and you can never put African Americans to sleep again. Legislation and Executive Orders can never sanitize or whitewash away the stains of America’s past. Likewise, as African Americans, we cannot and will not forget the debt that we owe to our fore-parents to stay W.O.K.E. in honor of their resilient souls and their powerful legacy.

African Americans didn’t contribute to the ugliness of America’s pass evils, but we — more than any other race in America’s history — have made the greatest contributions and sacrifices in forcing America to live up to her noble claims that are penned in the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution … and we ain’t going back to sleep, because Allah is the One who made us W.O.K.E.!
