Scott Hicks, a beloved figure in Indiana basketball, was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame on March 19.

Born and raised in Indianapolisā Haughville neighborhood, Hicks grew up immersed in the cityās rich basketball culture. As a child, he dreamed of playing for George Washington High School, where he watched his first high school games and idolized local legends like George McGinnis. However, his path took an unexpected turn when he chose to attend Cathedral High School, igniting playful ribbing from his peers, including former Miss Basketball Cheryl Cook.

Hicksā basketball journey was defined by his quick hands, sharp instincts, and unselfish play. After high school, he became a standout captain at the University of Notre Dame, where his leadership and skill left a lasting impact. Though his competitive playing days ended in a 40-and-over league at Arlingtonāwhere he famously played through burning Achilles pain to secure a comeback wināhis love for the game never faded.

Beyond his playing career, Hicks dedicated himself to mentoring young athletes. He returned to his roots as the athletic director at George Washington High School, where he continues to inspire the next generation.
